Overview: Making Theatre will be led by the director of Bellarmine’s drama program and current cast and crew members. We will start each day with theatre games and improv exercises, then venture into story-telling and narrative. We will use found texts such as nursery rhymes, song lyrics, fairy tales and fables to create improvised scenes. The second part of each day will be a modified rehearsal process where, over the course of our four days, we will turn our improvised scenes into one or more fully produced short plays.
Camp Highlights: Along with daily warm-ups and theatre games, we will also explore performance improv in both long and short forms, voice and movement, the theatrical design process, as well as the standard rehearsal process. Participants will engage in the three primary theatrical principles of focus and attention, ensemble, and the intent to improve incrementally using small technical steps and bold theatrical discoveries.
