Musical Theatre is a uniquely American form of drama. Students will train in various styles of the genre including musical comedy, rock musicals, concept musicals, and “pop operas,” and discover the composers, lyricists, and teams who partnered to create them. They will compare distinguishing components and qualities of historically landmark productions in relation to their own social and cultural contexts. They will investigate how song, dance and musical underscoring all contribute to dramatic elements of a production through daily on your feet work sessions and bi-weekly presentations of individual or small- group projects in which students demonstrate a deeper understanding of differing aspects of musical theater performance.
Daily Workload
  • 10 minute group physical and vocal warmup
  • Pre assigned solo and group work session (the goal is to present these songs in a final form after 2 weeks of work sessions.)
  • Last 5 minutes to discuss our daily experience, and breakthroughs.
