Meet the Head Coach
Coach Matt Ellis began his teaching career in Bellarmine's history department in the fall of 1997. He is a 1989 graduate of Seattle's Blanchet High School where he participated in track and cross country. Matt continued competitive running during college at the University of Puget Sound where he earned All-American honors in 1994. He took over as the Bellarmine varsity girls head cross country coach in 1998 and has taken the Lions to the state meet every year since.
Although Matt has coached the track and field distance runners for many years, he became the head track & field coach in 2006. In his spare time, he still runs competitively. He won the 2002 Napa Valley Marathon and the 2005 Capital City Marathon. He teaches psychology and American government at Bellarmine lives in Tacoma with his wife, Nancy.
