Bellarmine Preparatory School

About Bellarmine / Sponsorship/Accreditation

Sponsorship/Accreditation Approved by State, Jesuits & Archdiocese

March 8, 2010 -- Last year, Bellarmine engaged in an intensive self-study and school visitation toward renewal of its Sponsorship by the Jesuits, review of Catholic identity by the Archdiocese of Seattle and accreditation by the State of Washington. The school has now received confirmation in all three arenas. State accreditation came with completion of the process, Sponsorship by the Jesuits was celebrated at our Affirmation Mass at the beginning of the year, and the Oregon Province has forwarded a letter from the Archdiocese informing us of the "successful completion of its visitation."

The letter was from Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Bishop Joseph Tyson, who said that, "the next visitation would take place in conjunction with your next sponsorship process,' which is scheduled six years from now. Bishop Tyson's letter commended Bellarmine in six areas:

1) Cooperation with the Archdiocese during
    the sponsorship process

2) Combining the reviews for Sponsorship,
Accreditation and Catholic identity into one
    process

3) The school's willingness to move away from
the Day of Silence to a broader program
     about treating persons with respect

4) The quality of programs teaching social
     justice

5) Participation in the Archdiocese's Theology
of the Body Conference and the initiatives
    flowing from it

6) The planning, preparation and participation
level of the school's liturgiesThe Archdiocese
has pledged its support and guidance in
     Bellarmine's continuing efforts to strengthen
Catholic Identity and improve programs that
     foster students' spiritual and catechetical
development, so central to its mission.
