About Bellarmine / Long-range Plan

Long-range Plan ~ May 18, 2010

Background

In April of 2007, Bellarmine’s Board of Directors charged a Steering Committee to prepare a draft Long-range Strategic Plan to guide the school toward its desired reality over the following ten years. The last Long-range Plan had been approved in 1998, and many of the goals of that plan had been accomplished. It was time to examine the school’s activities, its needs and the changing world it serves in light of its Mission.

The Steering Committee identified five Pillars (Spiritual, Excellence, People, Accessibility and Stability) which provide crucial support to that Mission and commissioned Task Teams to study how these Pillars could be significantly strengthened over the next decade. In all, 117 people served on nine Task Teams examining Academics, Admissions, Development, Facilities, Finance, Formation, Human Resources, Student Life and Technology. Additionally over 500 parents, alumni, students, alum-parents and employees gave input via an on-line survey.

The Steering Committee reviewed this information, identified priorities, and formulated high-level strategic goals for each of the five Pillars. In May of 2008, the Plan was presented to the Board, which approved it with the intent to revise it after the school completed its Sponsorship/Accreditation self-study and visitation during the following year. After taking into account what was learned from that process and the impact of a significant economic downturn in late 2008, the Plan was revised. These goals are being recommended as the key strategies the school must pursue with “eagerness and dedication” if Bellarmine is to achieve its longed-for reality by 2018.
